REXIT.AU stands for Regional Exit Australia. The REXIT movement reignites the everlasting conversation of the creation of New States in Australia.
The evolution of Australian states started with the colony of New South Wales in 1787 to federation in 1901 where after 133 years the creation of the six colony's of New South Wales (1787), Tasmania (1825), Western Australia (1829), South Australia (1836), Victoria (1841) and Queensland (1859) formed the Commonwealth of Australia (Federation) and became states therein. In 1911 the two mainland territory's were added being the Northern Territory and the Australian Capital Territory.
Since federation (The unification of the colony's to become the states of Australia) in 1901 and the creation of two territories in 1911 the evolution of the states of Australia has stalled.
For more information: Wikipedia Territorial Evolution of Australia. Note: Wikipedia describes the evolution as stable (as in not changing) but that is contrary to the act of evolution which is to change and adapt to economic changes.
Since Federation the evolution of the states of Australia has stalled.

The creation of New States was expected by our forebears and at Federation the allowance to create new states was written into the Australian Constitution Chapter VI. New States.
At the time of Federation in 1901, there were still large parts of Australia underdeveloped, particularly in Northern Australia where underdevelopment still exists today caused largely by what is known as the tropical lag and an inability of administration from Southern Australia to deal with the requirements of Tropical Northern Australia.
Other regional areas in Southern Australia, with increases in development and population over the last 100 years are looking for more independence and self-government.
Better administrative decisions are made when they take place closer to their source. A higher degree of local knowledge and sentiment is accounted for resulting in better outcomes.
Electoral boundaries and Local Government Areas within the states of Australia are constantly undergoing change.
Australia is the sixth largest country in the world by area (7.7 Million km2) and has the lowest number of mainland states and territories (first level administrative divisions, (8) 6 states and 2 territories) in the top 21 countries by area where Niger 21st (1.3Mkm2) has (8) 7 Regions and a Capital District, South Africa 24th (1.2Mkm2) 9 Provinces and Pakistan 33rd (0.8Mkm2) (6) 4 Provinces and 2 Territories.
The expectation and allowances of new states is written into the Australian Constitution.
Following is a list of countries within the Americas and Asia with major changes to its 1st level administrative regions (state, provinces etc.) since the 1950's: USA, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Chile, Russia, Japan, China, India, Philippines, Indonesia etc.
Changes to 1st level administrative regions around the world has been common since the 1950's, Australia has not made a major change since 1911.
The world is constantly evolving. Following is a list of the latest countries established since 1993.
The regional areas across Australia are losing their representation. Diminishing Regional representation is taking place from the process of electoral boundary redistributions.
People are more willing to migrate to higher end facilities and services in metropolitan areas. Across Australia the metropolitan conurbations are constantly outgrowing their regional areas of the state in population.
This process can be amplified by centralisation or a lack of government investment for base services in regional areas.
Every electoral redistribution a displacement takes place which increases the number of representatives to the metropolitan conurbations to that of the states regional areas.
Regional Australia is loosing its voice.

The state governments of Australia are competitive to each other, they compete for population mobility. Business firms and population voting with their feet and moving from one state to the other. This state government competition makes for fiscal discipline, better efficiency and more innovation.
It is important that the federal government does not interfere or erode state government competition.
The more states in Australia, the more competitive the state governments and better overall state government decision making.
New states increase State Government competition.
